[Software] Mesa drivers

Hi there,

I've been running Debian 12.5 in a VM (and live test) for a bit now and I'm about ready to actually install it on my system.
I do play some games occasionally but nothing "hardcore" I don't play the latest and greatest and I don't have "bleeding edge" hardware. Processor is a second-generation AMD Threadripper combined with an AMD RX6950 XT.
With this not very new hardware I think I don't need to backport a new(er) kernel as 6.1 seems to be recent enough according to some comments I read online, is this correct?
Probably will download/install amdgpu linux-firmware

How does one update the mesa drivers on Debian 12 without creating a FrankenDebian?
I don't need the very latest but something in the 23.x branch would be nice
