After many years of work, I have graduated with a bachelor degree in computer technology (not the official title). It's my 2nd profession, I am currently working as a library technician. I do board game design as a hobby. I am pretty much a Jack of all trade, I can do a lot of things from realistic to artistic activities. This is a part of the problem, nothing really sticks or fascinate me more than anything else.
So I am wondering where should I try to work with my bachelor degree?
I have seen tech job lists online and I am not really sure what I want. I know only a few things that I do not want. I learned how a computer works form top to bottom, but we never really learn how the profession works.
I seem to be good at teaching stuff, what ever the subject, but my degree is not high enough to teach at the university, and I would need an additional to teach in high school. Since I am also a library technician, I have some interest for knowledge and schools.
In general, what ever I do, I like to help people and make them happy. I am not the person that would accept making a piece of software that enslaves mankind for the next 40 years.
From the classes I followed, I like low level programming (C), relational database, user interface design (reminds me of board game design), Linux, Hardware. On the other hand, I hate web development, Windows, Object oriented programming.
I though of doing things on my own, but I don't think I would be making a living out of it. I could make some strategy video games, but it will be for a very niche market. I could also teach on you tube how to program in C with a few other subjects, but I doubt to be able to do a living from ads revenue. I consider it to be more of a sideline or an hobby than a job.
Most jobs in tech seems to be full time jobs. That gives me little time to perform those "hobby jobs". Salary is no my main criteria in job selection. I rather have a non-toxic environment with interesting tasks, than a bigger pay check.
Do you have any recommendations?
The positive about computer technology is that there is so many different jobs compared to other professions. But the is so many possibilities, that it's hard to make a choice.
